VLCC (200,000 dwt +)
DHT's VLCC’s trade primarily on the spot market or through
contracts of affreightment (COAs) transporting crude oil on long-haul voyages.
Typical routes include those from the Arabian Gulf to the Far East, Western
Europe, the U.S. Gulf or Caribbean, as well as from the North Sea and West Africa
to the U.S. Gulf, India, China and Southeast Asia.
DHT's fleet of VLCCs trade in the Tankers
International (TI) pool, the largest commercial operator of VLCC tankers
in the world with 40 vessels. TI was established by OSG and other leading tanker
companies to meet the global transportation requirements of the major oil companies
and other charterers. The profile, age and scale of the fleet enables TI to
differentiate itself towards customers with a preference for high quality modern
tonnage. The pool's integrated transportation system offers customers greater
flexibility and vessel availability resulting in higher levels of service. For
the participants in the pool, uniform high-quality fleets such as the fleet
of TI improves vessel utilization through improved scheduling and reduced waiting
time.
Suezmax (130,000 – 170,000 dwt)
A suezmax vessels is approximately 130,000 to 170,000 dwt. in size and modern suezmaxes can generally transport about 1 million barrels of crude oil and operate on many different trade routes, including from West Africa to the U.S. DHT’s Suezmax vessels are in the Suezmax International (SI) pool and trade predominantly in the spot market in the Atlantic Basin. The SI pool was founded in 2008 and is commercially managed by OSG. The SI pool has five members and five vessels to date.
Aframax (80,000 – 120,000 dwt )
Among tankers, the Aframax tankers are considered to be
the “workhorse” because of their flexibility in terms of vessels size and cargo
volume. DHT's Aframax tankers are predominantly employed on short-haul voyages,
trading in both the spot and short-term charter markets carrying crude and refined
products in the Atlantic Basin. Typical voyages are from Venezuela, East Coast
of Mexico, the North Sea and the Mediterranean to destinations in the U.S. Gulf,
U.S. Atlantic Coast ports, Canada, Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean.
DHT’s fleet of Aframax tankers trade in the Aframax
International (AI), one of the largest commercial operators of Aframax tankers
in the world. The Pool was founded by OSG and PDV Marina, S.A. and is today commercially
managed by OSG. The AI pool has eight members and 49 vessels. The pool is dedicated
to serving the demand for flexible and high-quality tanker transportation requirements
of the leading oil companies and independent charterers.
AI balances employment of its Aframax fleet among multi-year COAs, short-term period charters and third-party lightering operations. The scale of AI's fleet allows for increased utilization of the fleet and optimal service to the customers, and thus enhancing the profitability of the participants.
